The event is closed to the public
Hardcore MMA fans (particularly those in New York City) are probably aware that tomorrow’s Conor-Khabib press conference is closed to the general public. The reasons for this are unclear. Some have claimed it’s for security reasons, although no one has officially stated this to be true. Regardless, the event tomorrow will be open only to the media… Or is it?
Conor McGregor launched his new Irish whiskey brand a few days ago. He stated on his Twitter account that any fans will in fact be allowed in, as long as they bring a bottle of his new whiskey. This is more than likely a promotional tactic by McGregor, although we’ve seen him get away with these kinds of things in the past.
Conor might be late
We’ve seen in the past that Conor McGregor moves to the beat of his own drum. Since winning the featherweight title from Jose Aldo back in December of 2015, he’s operated on his own time, oftentimes showing up for press obligations like the one for the Nate Diaz rematch and the Eddie Alvarez bout, long after they began.
For a fight of this magnitude, perhaps Conor will be on time. Or, perhaps he knows how much it irks his opponents when he shows up late, and he’ll make his grand entrance when he feels like it.
The face-off will be legendary
The Conor-Khabib press conference is the first battle between these two fighters. Conor is without a doubt the best talker in the UFC, and has an uncanny ability to get under his opponents skin before fight night. Khabib hasn’t taken the bait thus far, although he will most likely have some strong words for his Irish opponent tomorrow in New York.
McGregor even crossed a line, according to some, by insulting Khabib’s father. There’s some major heat heading into this fight, and the face-off between both men should be of the most intense in UFC history. Let’s hope there’s enough security in place to stop both teams from engaging in any real physical confrontation.
