On Saturday, July 11th, the UFC is set to hold its first event on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi. It’s clear that officials within the UFC wanted to stack the first “Fight Island” event from top to bottom. Fans will be treated to three incredible title bouts. Today, our analysts are offering a UFC 251 betting guide to highlight some of the best available wagers.
As many have already noticed, there are some great betting opportunities available for this event. This is one of the best cards the UFC has put together in some time. The odds being featured here are courtesy of Bovada Sportsbook, one of the very best sports betting website in the United States.
Let’s look at which fighters are worth a bet on.
Bet #1: Frankie Edgar +170 vs. Pedro Munhoz: -210
UFC 251 will end up being the first time that Frankie Edgar competes at 135 pounds. It’s a little surprising seeing him listed as the underdog against Pedro Munhoz. For that reason, this is one of the best fights available to bet on this year.
Edgar is a former lightweight champion. He’s also competed for the featherweight title several times. Many believe that his true home should always have been at bantamweight.
Pedro Munhoz is a serious talent at bantamweight. Besides the win over Cody Garbrandt, however, he doesn’t hold any victories over a top-10 opponent. He’ll need to fight a perfect fight in order to get the win over Frankie.
Our prediction: Frankie Edgar wins via unanimous decision.
The odds here are very unusual. It seems many have forgotten just how talented and tenacious Frankie Edgar really is. I think he picks Munhoz apart on the feet and mixes things up with his wrestling from time to time. This probably won’t be the only UFC 251 betting guide picking Edgar to win.
Bet #2: Rose Namajunas: -200 vs. Jessica Andrade: +160
UFC 251 will also feature the return of Rose Namajunas. The former strawweight champion has been through a lot over the years and finally seems ready to compete. She faces a serious challenge in Jessica Andrade.
These two women first competed back in May of 2019. Rose looked incredible for the first 2 minutes and 50 seconds of the fight. Eventually, Andrade landed a knockout slam and pulled off one of the biggest upsets of the year.
Jessica Andrade only knows how to fight one way. She’s an extreme power puncher and is willing to take a few shots in order to land one of her own. It’s important to note that Andrade lost her most recent fight in devastating fashion. It will be very interesting to see how she responds to that loss.
Our Prediction: Rose Namajunas wins via 2nd-round TKO.
This is a hugely important fight for both Rose and Jessica and it’s one we couldn’t leave out while forming this UFC 251 betting guide. Both are coming off losses and will need a win here in order to stay in title contention. Rose was dominating most of the fight first and I think she finishes what she started back in May with a TKO win next month.
Bet #3: Alex Volkanovski: -190 vs. Max Holloway: +155
One of the most interesting fights scheduled to take place on “Fight Island” is between Alex Volkanovski and Max Holloway. This is another rematch between two of the best fighters on the planet and many UFC 251 betting guides are torn on who will come out on top. Much like the Rose-Andrade fight, this is an extremely important fight for both men.
Alex Volkanovski has proven to be one of the most underrated fighters in MMA. He’s 21-1 as a professional with eight-straight wins in the UFC. In December, he took out Holloway, despite coming into the fight as the massive underdog.
Max Holloway is still considered by many to be the greatest featherweight champion of all time. He holds wins over many of the sport’s best fighters, including the aforementioned Frankie Edgar. Holloway showed some holes in his game during the first fight against Alex, yet many feel he’ll correct those mistakes once July rolls around.
Our Prediction: Max Holloway wins via 4th round KO.
It’s easy to say that Volkanovski will repeat his performance back in December and earn another win next month. Our analysts just don’t believe that will happen. Holloway’s biggest weakness was the leg kicks the first time around. He knows that now, and will use his precision striking to earn the KO victory in the rematch.
Bet #4: Petr Yan: -230 vs. Jose Aldo: +180
The bantamweight title is up for grabs with one of the toughest UFC 251 betting guide fights to call. Petr Yan looks to continue his nine-fight win streak against Jose Aldo, one of the most legendary fighters in MMA. Some feel this will be the most competitive fight on the entire card. The odds from some of the best UFC betting sites in the US seem to disagree.
Petr Yan has slowly climbed up the bantamweight rankings. He’s extremely well-rounded and knows how to finish fights. His most recent win over Urijah Faber proved he’d ready for the top of the division.
Jose Aldo reigned as the feathweight kingpin for many years. Back in December, he decided to move down to bantamweight and just about everyone aside from the ringside judges feel he won the fight against Marlon Moraes. He now has the chance to earn another title next month against Petr Yan.
Our Prediction: Petr Yan wins via unanimous decision.
A few years ago, this would have seemed like an easy win for Jose Aldo. He’s been in the MMA game for a long time, though, and Petr Yan represents the new wave of the sport. I think this ends up being a great fight, but Yan will do enough to get the decision victory.
Bet #5: Kamaru Usman: -200 vs. Gilbert Burns: +160
The last fight of UFC 251 takes place between Kamaru Usman and Gilbert Burns. Interestingly, these men are training partners. It seems they are putting their friendship to the side here simply to see which man is the better mixed martial artists.
Kamaru Usman is unquestionably one of the best fighters in the world right now. He proved that late last year with a fifth-round TKO over Colby Covington. The oddsmakers feel he’ll get the job done against Burns on Fight Island.
Gilbert Burns has always been a top-flight mixed martial artist. Just a few weeks ago, he showed he’s a title contender after beating Tyron Woodley via a one-sided unanimous decision. He rides that momentum into this bout next month.
Our Prediction: Gilbert Burns wins via 2nd-round submission.
This might be the most controversial pick on this UFC 251 betting guide. We just feel that momentum will be the key factor. Burns has fought several times over the past few weeks. He’s in incredible shape right now and has the jiu-jitsu pedigree to pull off the submission against Usman next month.
